We haven't checked in with As I Lay Dying since their quiet, controversial return. One thing is clear – the band is back and will be actively touring, and at this rate, releasing a new album sometime soon.
To recap, As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis was released from prison in late 2016. Lambesis was sentenced to six years imprisonment in May 2014 on a felony charge of solicitation of murder after attempting to hire a hitman to kill his then-wife. He served about two and a half years and was released right at the end of 2016, and has since remarried. We covered this story exhaustively in 2013 and 2014. Tim is now making strides to move on with his life.
Prison's intent is to profit off of its inmates to rehabilitate the folks in there and that is what Tim is trying to do. Lambesis posted this message on his personal social media revealing that he was taking classes in the slammer and hopes to finish his higher-education pursuits:
"I'm slowly getting comfortable sharing parts of my life, little by little.
"Taken at an end of the school year party last semester. I can't believe it's already a new school year!
"A lot of people have been asking what I've done with most of my time over the past 5+ years. School is one of many things. It's hard for me to sit idle, so I took almost every class I could. I got a handful of undergraduate degrees in the process, but what interested me most were courses in addiction treatment. I ended up becoming a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor and started working as a case manager for a year in the process of collecting field hours for my certification. Then in 2017 I began a Master of Social Work program.
"The smile you see here comes from a sense of relief after finishing the first year of the MSW!"
