For those unaware, Kim Davis is the Rowan County clerk in Kentucky that outright refused to give a gay couple their marriage license because of Jesus doesn't approve of that type of thing. Y'know, despite that being super illegal and whatnot. She already pissed off one band, Survivor, by using their track "Eye of the Tiger" without permission and now she's gone and ticked off a viking.
People around the globe are naturally pissed off and one of those people is Amon Amarth's John Hegg, who really doesn't seem like someone you'd want to piss off. Hegg took to Facebook to unleash the following rant against Davis.
Regarding some recent events here are a couple of thoughts.
It's ok to have whatever superstitious belief you wish, but you have no right to break the law because of it.
If your job or a job you are applying for dictates that you perform a duty that goes against your "religious belief" feel free to hand in your resignation, or feel free to NOT apply for that particular job in the first place.
Your beliefs does not entitle you to oppress or disrespect women. Not even if they are stupid enough to hold the same ridiculous beliefs as you do.
A religious congregation is a business. They should pay taxes just like everybody else.
If your moral code comes from a book written by some desert dwelling, goat herding nomads between 1400 and 2000 years ago, you have no authority on what is acceptable in the 21st century. Go live in a cave somewhere.
I'm not gonna get into the ethics of religion and everything like that, but the bottom line is that Hegg is right. If you want to believe whatever you want to believe, then that's on you. Don't go forcing it on other people, especially when it's not your place to do so.
