CHAD GRAY Says MUDVAYNE Ain't Over Yet

Do you want to see Mudvayne reunite?

Do you want to see Mudvayne reunite?

The nu-metal resurgence is officially on. Coal Chamber is reuniting.  There's a new Limp Bizkit track. Orgy is trying to make a comeback. Linkin Park and Godsmack both released new albums this year.

Everybody who was big 15 years ago is trying to make a go of it. In 2000, Mudvayne broke big with their track "Dig," a song that still gets stuck in my head to this day:

Honestly, it may be one of my favorite nu-metal songs of all time. Anyway, the band stuck around for another nine years and then went on hiatus. Frontman Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett went on to form Hellyeah with Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul. Recently, Tribbett was unceremoniously dumped from Hellyeah, leading some to speculate that Mudvayne may never play again due to the resulting tension.

Chad Gray says it's not so. In the new issue of Revolver, as transcribed by ThePRP, he was asked about Tribbett's departure from Hellyeah and how it affected Gray:

"Yeah, man. He has always been my right-hand man. He's been the back I look at when I'm writing songs and the sounding board for my ideas. When everything went sideways, it was like losing a great friend. I was filled with fear and I had mixed emotions. At first, I was like, Goddamn, I don't know if I'm ever gonna be able to do this without him."

Revolver followed up by asking directly if Mudvayne was officially over and Chad said:

"I don't think so. We all still talk. I'm not ready to put a headstone on anything yet."

Previously, other members of the band have suggested that Mudvayne is over. I don't buy it. I'm sure once Hellyeah is done with this record cycle, Mudvayne might start getting sent some feelers for shows, and if the money is right, I bet suddenly they'll feel creatively inspired to work together again.
