The recent earthquakes in Nepal have claimed the lives of thousands of people, injured thousands more and has left the already impoverished country in shambles. It's an absolute tragedy, and it's in times like these that it's crucial for us to set aside whatever differences we may have and provide aid to people who desperately need it, in this case, the people of Nepal.
Many relief organizations have sprung into action in an attempt to assist the people of Nepal, and the Boston metal scene is getting in on the action as well. A collective of Boston-area bands and promoters have come together and created the Metal For Nepal Benefit Concert in an attempt to help the poor people of Nepal during these dire times. Tickets are only $10, and all proceeds will go to several organizations which the co-founders of the event, Kunjan Joshi and Kevin Brown, feel are making the most immediate impact in the relief effort in Nepal. Brown explains further:
“From the music that drives our hearts and minds, to the scene that we are the water to its rivers, we want to use our passion to help those on the other side of the world. Nepal's rivers are dirty with what's left of their shattered worlds, and we can use our rivers to help clarify theirs, put their worlds back together. Metal for Nepal is our desalinization plant, our efforts to cleanse what we can as we mosh and head-bang the day away.”
The Metal For Nepal Benefit Concert is happening on June 20 at the Middle East Nightclub in Cambridge from noon to 4 p.m. The bands playing the concert include Obsidian Tongue, Native Contruct, Caricature, Sonic Pulse and BruteMukti. This is a totally awesome line up of bands to see for an even more awesome cause, and if you live in or near the Boston or Cambridge area, there's no reason why you shouldn't make time to go to this event.
Tickets can be purchased here. For more info, visit the Metal For Nepal Event page on Facebook.
Additionally, BruteMukti have made a benefit compilation full of Nepalese metal bands available on Bandcamp. Listen below, and consider donating, as all proceeds from it will to the aforementioned relief organizations as well. Physical copies of the compilation will be available at the show as well.
