Mike Portnoy Invites Former DREAM THEATER Bandmates To Jam At His 50th Birthday Bash

Will they accept?

Will they accept?

Mike Portnoy and Dream Theater's relationship after their split has been pretty much nonexistent. Neither party has had really bad things to say about one another, but they're also not really letting on that they're talking either.

Portnoy will be performing on the Cruise To The Edge progressive rock cruise from February 7 to 11, which will double as his 50th birthday bash. On the cruise, Portnoy hopes to see his former bandmates there and has extended an open invitation to them to perform the 12-Step Suite.

For those unaware, the suite is comprised of songs between Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Black Clouds and Silver Linings, chronicling Portnoy's recovery from alcoholism.

"I would love nothing more than to perform it with them. But they've made it clear that they have no intention in reuniting at any point. So, life is short, this is going to be my 50th birthday and it just felt like the right time and place to finally play this music.

"I wrote all five of these songs with the intention of them being performed from start to finish, and I would have loved nothing more than to be doing it with Dream Theater. But it's obviously not on the cards for them.

"I can't sit around waiting for a reunion that may not happen. That being said, all four Dream Theater guys have an open invitation to join me on the cruise. I would love nothing more than for them to be there with me."

It seems as though either way Portnoy will be performing the five-song suite, but wouldn't it be cool to see the Dream Theater dudes there?
