Back on Jan. 7 it was revealed that Metallica would not only be playing the Grammys show this year for the first time since 1992, but they'd be performing alongside classical piano legend Lang Lang. Naturally this has led to speculation over the performance since the band have done something like this before on a much grander scale with their 1999 S&M orchestral show with the San Francisco Symphony. Guitarist Kirk Hammett recently told Rolling Stone that they'd be doing a performance of "One" off …and Justice For All that will be "completely insane."
"Lang Lang has interjected himself into the song in a way I don't think anyone else has ever done in the course of our career. He's going to be playing major parts of the songs. He's going to be playing through the melody." Hammett also revealed that Metallica has already been working with Lang Lang on a demo of the song and that the collaboration definitely works. "He's going to be weaving in and out of my guitar solos, which is amazing for me," said Hammett. "I've never played with another instrument that's been able to do that so effortlessly."
Don't worry if it's going to stay as heavy as it already is, as Hammett assures us "[they'll be] keeping all the heavy parts. And it's going to be really cool and it's really dynamic." Between this and the band working on a new record due out sometime probably in 2015, I'd say we've got some solid Metallica stuff to look forward to!
