We rag on Dave Mustaine a lot around these parts, even giving him his own category, which we don't just do for anyone. But there will be no snark here, as I greatly respect his newly announced plans to make the Oklahoma City stop of his upcoming Gigantour a benefit for the victims of the terrible tornado that struck the area.
When Megadeth play the OKC Zoo Amphitheatre on July 16, the band will be donating "proceeds," which I assume to mean their cut of the show profits to aid Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Mustaine gave this quote in the press release:
“Many amazing bands have come forward to aid Oklahomans since the May tornadoes came and tore apart their homes and lives. Now it’s time for Heavy Metal to give to this community!”
Additionally, the day before the show, Mustaine is coordinating a celebrity softball game featuring musicians from Gigantour as well as local celebrities. Please tell me this means Zakk Wylde and Vinnie Paul will be running the bases. I seriously hope that would be taped! Here is the info on the softball game:
On Monday, July 15th at ASA Hall of Fame Complex there will be an All-Star softball game with Megadeth and other band members from the festival tour, plus local celebrities and more to be announced. 100% of the proceeds benefit Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The ASA Hall of Fame Stadium is located at 2801 NE 50th Street and has generously donated the field for this fun, entertaining event. Softball game patrons are asked to make a minimum $5.00 donation to come see some heavy metal celebrities and local celebs have fun on the softball field Monday night!
More info on the Regional Food Bank can be found here.
A big thumbs up right back at you, Dave for doing some good in Oklahoma City! Get Gigantour dates here.
