MAX CAVALERA On SEPULTURA's Current Lineup: "They Do What They Do; I Do What I Do"

"It doesn't bother me. It is what it is."

Sepultura split with guitarist and vocalist Max Cavalera in 1996, and then Max's brother and drummer Igor Cavalera in 2006. Sepultura is currently fronted by Derrick Green and has Eloy Casagrande behind the kit, while Max and Igor both play together in Cavalera Conspiracy (and have tons of their own projects). When asked by General Population With Marco Lesher what he thinks of modern Sepultura, Max replied that he doesn't really care.

"It doesn't bother me. It is what it is. At the end of the day, the fans know what the band was and what it is now, the difference. And I really don't care. I'm not bitter. They do what they do; I do what I do. It's been like that for a long time now. But you can't touch the classics; those records that we did. It still goes, but it is what it is.

"If you wanna really hear something that sounds close to what it was, you have to come see me and Igor play. That's the only thing that is gonna be close to what it was, to that time."

The Cavalera brothers will perform Sepultura music under the Cavalera moniker at Maryland Deathfest 2022.
