Leprous give you a taste of their upcoming album Coal (out May 28) with the song "Chronic," which is much less stoner-related than you think.
Those guys over at Heavy Blog is Heavy are streaming a new 7-and-a-half-minute Leprous jam called "Chronic." In the weirdest way, this song reminds me of a much less ambient version of some modern Ulver jams and I can't really put my finger on why. The whole song isn't like that though; more just the first three-ish minutes. After that mark, the song sits right on the edge of becoming heavy as hell with their best Devin Townsend impersonation, and then wham! Right into being the heavy you always wanted it to be. It's a really solid song that doesn't feel nearly as long as it is, which is always a good thing. It's varied enough to keep you interested but sticks to one common sound so it's not stupid and all over the place. Oh, and is it obvious that Ihsahn had his hand in on the song at all? I swear, Leprous and Ihsahn need to stop just playing live shows together and do an album of collaborative material.
