KENNY HICKEY Is Still Into A TYPE O NEGATIVE Tribute Show

"We're doing better than we were doing before Peter passed."

Type O Negative as a band sadly died with Peter Steele, but the idea of a tribute show is still a possibility. In an interview with Scott Penfold of Loaded Radio, Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey said he's into the idea of doing a tribute show with a handful of guests.

"People have approached us to try and reform the band with a singer and go on the road. 'Cause everybody wants a money grab. We personally don't think Peter is replaceable by anybody, and it just wouldn't work.

"A tribute I'd love to do. I'm sure Johnny [Kelly, drums] would love to do it. I know Josh [Silver, keyboards] wouldn't do it, because Josh is picking up body parts in East New York [during his work as a paramedic]. He's not gonna stop that to start rehearsing. But yeah, we would do it with guest musicians and stuff. If somebody had the idea and got it together and got the logistics together, sure — I would be into it."

On Type O Negative's popularity 15 years out from their final album: "Yeah. It's surprising, and I'm very grateful for it. I mean, the band has transcended, which is amazing," said Hickey. "t's reached a whole new generation. We're doing better than we were doing before Peter passed. [Laughs] [There's] a whole resurgence on it. Which is good. It's a testament to the work we put into it and the honesty we put into it and the years of sweat. There was realism to the music."

Kelly also weighed in on a potential tribute show back in 2022, saying he's also all for it.

"I don't know if I would ever wanna do something like take it on the road or… It could never be a reunion; Peter's not there, so it's impossible to call it a reunion," he said.

"I think that Peter's work deserves some kind of celebration. And how that can happen, I really have no idea. But we've never seriously considered doing any kind of reunion or putting something out there as Type O Negative without Peter. Peter, his musicianship, his character — without him there, you can't call it Type O Negative."
