Recently Intronaut guitarist Sacha Dunable did an AMA on Reddit about the group's new record, which is currently being worked on by Devin Townsend. Some of the more interesting repsonses in regards to the new record include the fact that Dunable feels as though the new stuff is the group's heaviest material to date!
"It's definitely our heaviest record in many years, but still with lots of ear-pleasing goodness. In my opinion, it totally crushes the last one both in terms of songwriting, riffs, and production. As a fan (yes I'm a fan of my own band) I'm pumped."
He also touches on how fans will be pleased with the fact that there are less clean vocals on the record as well.
"You'll probably be pleasantly surprised with the new record then. I think we were just feeling less brutal during the last record's writing process."
Why the group had turned to clean vocals in the first place…
"Just a desire to make the whole package more musical. There's only so much you can do with just brutal screams."
…and his love for building custom guitars.
"Thanks man! I got into it around 2009. I took a class on it here in LA and just never stopped. I'm super inspired by lots of guitars both vintage and contemporary, but I think the Dunable aesthetic comes from 70's guitars like Gibson, Guild, Alembic, weird Ibanez, even some Fender. I like guitars that are versatile, comfortable, and that I know are made from the best quality components and materials. Some of my current favorite builders are John Suhr, Fano, and even Strandberg."
Oh, and he also reveals that the noise you hear at the start of the song "Killing Birds With Stones" is a dolphin noise that tells you to listen to Intronaut. Come on, how was that not obvious to everyone by now? Clearly it was a dolphin and not… other things. Duh.
