GWYNBLEIDD are FINALLY done recording their long-awaited full-length

cover for the new Gwynbleidd record

Brooklyn-based progressive black/death/doom/folk metallers GWYNBLEIDD have finally completed their highly-anticipated full-length, Nostalgia.

Says the band:

“After much delays the process of recording, Nostalgia has finally come to an end. Next stop will be Unisound studios in Orebro, Sweden where Dan Swano will mix the record.
The artwork is coming along brilliantly, all thanks to Travis Smith. Stay put for more news in the coming weeks.”

Gwynbleidd released their critically-acclaimed debut EP, Amaranthine, in 2006. It was distributed by The End Records, and is still available from the band as well. Even though Gwynbleidd has been in existence since 2002, Nostalgia will be their first full-length album (quality over quantity!). Their genre-defying sound incorporates elements of black metal, doom, death metal, medieval music and European folk, pulled together by a progressive mindset and some of the most affecting clean vocals this side of Mikeal Akerfeldt. As a matter of fact, this band reminds me of latter-day Enslaved mixed with a more varied version of Opeth (sans the 70’s prog) and a touch of Agalloch.

All that, AND Dan Swano? Get pumped.

On a side note: Gwynbleidd has been involved with groundbreaking “heavy metal ballet” company Ballet Deviare since its inception, and will be featured in an upcoming one-night-only performance of the production in Philadelphia next month (September, 13 2008 at THE PAINTED BRIDE (230 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA).
