Gojira was supposed to be done with a new record by now, though the group collectively decided that what they had done wasn't anything spectacular and opted to head back to the drawing board in lieu of recording what they wrote.
In the last update, it sounded like the group was still writing everything out and sketching new ideas. Now drummer Mario Duplantier has given an update in a recent interview (below) with Impact Metal where he makes it sound like the band is in the studio ahead of its October deadline.
“The next step is we have to finish the guitar, the bass, the vocals, mixing the album and it will be done. But the drums are foundation, so the compositions are here. So the recording process is almost a detail. The most important [thing] is the songs. So the songs are here.”
Or at least it sounds like the group is in the studio. Not that they need to book time or anything like that, considering they have their own.
