EMINEM Was Almost On BLACK SABBATH Guitarist TONY IOMMI's Solo Record

Oh what could have been.

Oh what could have been.

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is of course the godfather of heavy metal. Before the big recent Sabbath reunion though, Iommi was keeping himself busy with a litany of solo albums in the early 00s.

That first album included a who's who from the rock world, including Dave Grohl, Phil Anselmo, Serj Tankian and Queen's Brian May to name a few. Turns out one name that could've made the list, was rap superstar Eminem.

In a recent discussion with Ryan J. Downey at the Musicians Institute on October 23rd, Iommi revealed that Eminem put in a request to contribute vocals to the album. Iommi says at the time, he wasn't familiar with the rapper, so the collaboration never happened. Coincidentally, another Detroit native, Kid Rock, was also pencilled in for the album, but never made the final cut.

It's odd that Iommi hadn't heard of Eminem at that point. Em blew up huge in 1999 with his debut album, but this offer could've happened before the breakthough album was dropped.

As for any other scoops, Loudwire reports, that Iommi said that Dave Grohl got Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron bumped from playing drums on a track, "Goodbye Lament" after begging Iommi to crush the skins for the song.

Eminem made headlines recently for releasing a freestyle rap directed at U.S. President Donald Trump. A fan mashed up the freestyle with Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade" to excellent results.
