DEFTONES' STEPHEN CARPENTER Names His Favorite Band In The Big Four Of Thrash

And their guitarist is also his favorite.

Stephen Carpenter

Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter recently gave an extended interview to Ernie Ball about his life as a musician. Carpenter touched on everything from being enamored with Kiss as a kid, to forming Deftones, to his favorite of the Big Four of thrash metal. Carpenter said he loves Metallica, but would have to pick Anthrax as his favorite.

"As a guitar player, I consider myself a rhythm guitar player. All the bands that I've ever liked since the '80s when I really, you know, started thinking about playing music, have always been rhythm-oriented. Of the Big Four, Anthrax was my favorite. I really did love Metallica of course too. But Anthrax was my favorite. And I really specifically loved Scott Ian as a rhythm player. I had zero desire to play a solo. I just wanted to crunch it up."

Deftones will hit the road with Gojira and Vowws later this year at one of the below dates.
