Are there any big reunions in rock music left? With Guns N Roses earlier this year and now this, what do we have left? The Misfits are back. Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only, two guys who haven't gotten along for decades have put all the lawsuits and counter-lawsuits aside, and will get on stage together along with Doyle Wolfgang Frankenstein for a proper reunion.
It all goes down at Riot Fest in Denver, which happens between September 2 and 4. A second performance will happen at Chicago's Riot Fest, September 16, 17, & 18. Tickets for both available now.
Riot Fest organizer Mike Petryshyn said of the coup that “it has been the most natural and organic process I've ever been a part of,” which seems weird seeing how much these guys avoided each other as of late. “To be frank, it still hasn't really hit me that this is actually happening because it's always been a pipe dream of ours and every Misfits fan. But it is, and I cannot fucking wait to sing along with everyone there."
No word on if there will be any more shows beyond this. Noisey reports that Jerry Only has teased a forthcoming Misfits EP called Friday the 13th, but no word on if Danzig is involved.
Misfits originally disbanded in 1983, with Danzig going on to form Samhain and have a successful solo career. Only resurrected Misfits in the mid-90s with several different iterations, eventually relying on help from other punk icons like Black Flag vocalist Dez Cadena and Ramones drummer Marky Ramone.
It should be an interesting summer.
