CYNIC's Paul Masvidal & Sean Malone Have Been Up To… Something

Is it new Cynic?

Is it new Cynic?

2015 was a confusing year for Cynic fans. The band took to Facebook to announce that it had broken up, guitarist and vocalist Paul Masvidal said he had no idea Cynic had broken up, and drummer Sean Reinert said the band broke up because the live performances weren't great. Cynic performed a one-off show without Reinert on drums, stated that Reinert was in control of the Facebook page and was the one (and only one) that stated Cynic had even broken up, and then things went quiet.

No word has surfaced on the future of Cynic just yet either. Do all three members need to be present for Cynic to carry on, or are there legal barriers from allowing that to happen? More importantly, does Cynic want to carry on without Reinert, or Masvidal, or bassist Sean Malone?

While we can't say for certain, what we can definitely say is that Masvidal and Malone are absolutely up to something. Masvidal keeps posting teasers of what sounds very much like new Cynic to his Facebook page, and appears to include Malone.

So what is this?! We're not sure, but we're stoked for whatever it is, because it sounds awesome.
