Last week was a disappointing and, at times, confusing week for Cynic fans. Mid-week, drummer Sean Reinert announced the band had broken up and any remaining tour dates are canceled. A few hours later, frontman Paul Masvidal posted a message saying this was news to him. The following day, we interviewed Sean to understand his side of the story and he made it clear that as he is a half-owner in the band, it will not continue without him.
That is why today's news is very interesting. Cynic will in fact play one show, the Euroblast festival on October 3 in Cologne, Germany. Masvidal and bassist Sean Malone will be joined by Trioscapes drummer Matt Lynch. A press release featured the following quote from the band:
The remaining members of Cynic will headline Euroblast on October 3rd as scheduled. Many thanks to the fans, promoters, agents and others, working on behalf of the band to make this show happen. It is the only show that was salvageable from Cynic’s European tour, cancelled without the band’s consensus by a single member last week.
Sean Reinert has yet to comment on the matter, but this sure sounds like an interesting event to witness. More info on the fest can be found here.
