Bruce Dickinson Will Arrive At DOWNLOAD FEST Via Bicycle After 25 Mile Ride For Charity
According to a press release, Dickinson will take part in the "Heavy Metal Truants" chairty bike event that's been organized by the band's manager Rob Smallwood and Metal Hammer editor Alexander Milas.
Dickinson will not be able to go along for the entire ride due to Maiden's world tour but will join up with group of riders at the final 25 miles of the ride after flying in from the band's German shows. Dickinson commented:
Yes, maybe it’s the first time the headliner has shown up on a bike, but I do use my bike to get around in London when l get the chance and have turned up at the BBC on a bike before, although the Commissioners were a bit surprised as they are too used to seeing limos! These are great causes, I am only sorry that due to our tour schedule l can’t do more of the ride, and hope our fans will support our efforts. I look forward to a day off after the ride seeing some great bands before we go into full Maiden action on the Saturday, with every intention of giving the fans a memorable show. Download and Metal fans are the best there are, so everyone expects something very special.”
Over 40 cyclists, including members of Trivium, Paradise Lost, Tesseract and more, will set off from Alexandra Palace, London, cycling 165 miles up to Donington Park, arriving as the first bands take to the Download stage. All the proceeds of the ride will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust, Childline and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy foundations. More info can be found at HeavyMetalTruants.com.
Who the hell ever said heavy metal was all about satanic crap and being a dick obviously never saw the kind side of these guys. Big ups to Iron Maiden all around for having a manager that cares and a lead singer that wants to participate!
