It's gonna make you windmill yourself into a coma.

Shabti, the blackened thrash band featuring drummer Ray Capizzo (Falls of Rauros, Obsidian Tongue), vocalist and guitarist Rob Cook (Feral) and Brendan Hayter (Obsidian Tongue, Thrawsunblat, ex-Woods of Ypres), will release their sophomore effort Trembling And Shorn on March 22. The record was tracked by Todd Hutchisen at Acadia Recording Company, mixed by Dave Kaminsky at Studio Wormwood, mastered by Colin Marston at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves, and completed with grim cover art by Unexpected Specter.

We're premiering the band's new song "My Doppelganger" today, which Cook says is the band's thrashiest song on the new record. Which is probably good news, because if there were any songs on there that made me attempt to windmill harder than this one, it's going to be a medical problem.

"From a song writing standpoint, Shabti is basically about what comes naturally for me as a guitar player. We are definitely an extreme metal band at the end of the day but we do not try to adhere to any subgenre. "My Doppelganger" is probably the thrashiest song on the record. Lyrically it deals with disassociation, numbness and the feeling that you are observing your actions and life rather than acting directly. All of the other songs on the cd are about external concepts and the world around us but this one is more personal. The album title, Trembling and Shorn is drawn from these lyrics, though when I think of the phrase as an album title it has a broader meaning than it does in the song."
