Megadeth's Dave Mustaine has been very carefulĀ ynot to publicly endorse anybody for president. Even when he went on Fox News, to be interviewed by former MTV VJ Kennedy,Ā he was evasive.Ā Although Mustaine has released a line of "Mustaine for President" merch, he has avoided talking specifics about the election.
That changed this weekend whenĀ Turbo of the Rock 100.5 The KATT spoke with Mustaine and asked his views on politics. While Mustaine was careful enough to say he wouldn't be endorsing anybody, heĀ made sure to point out both Democratic nominee hopefuls were not good choices, which may come off as a Trump endorsement. Here is a transcript:
"If you wanna know how things are gonna look, it's gonna be real simple to boil it down. If you wanna know what being with Bernie Sanders [as president] would look like, look at Venezuela. If you wanna know what being with Hillary Clinton [as president] would look like, it'll be more of the same. If you don't want either one of those things, the other choice is gonna be Donald Trump. Now, I think that because of the fact that Hillary may be goingā¦ [she] may be unable to run for office because of her criminal proceedings that look like they're gonna take place, it looks like the Democratic party is getting some people ready, like, in the back. You hear rumblings [of] Jennifer Warren [sic] and Joe Biden still kind of hovering around and stuff like that. And the same thing is, like, why did Mitt Romney all of a sudden start talking up again. I mean, he's more outgoing right now against Donald Trump than he was against Barack Obama."
If you're wondering who the hell Jennifer Warren is, she is an actress who appeared inĀ Slap Shot. I'm pretty sure Mustaine was referring to Massachusettes senator Elizabeth Warren, who has stated she is not interested in running. There have been many arguments countering the suggestion that Venezuela is an example of socialism gone bad (short version: Venezuela was more of a dictatorship than a socialist democracy).
It's also interesting that he didn't really criticize Trump but only mentioned that others in the party want to supersede him. Mustaine went on to say:
"I believe we're right on the cusp where something super fantastic is gonna happen in our nation right now. I think that this election is gonna have explosive repercussions one way or the other, and if it doesn't go the right way, America is gonna be in a lot of trouble. But everybody needs to remember this number: it's article 25."
Mustaine is likely referring to the 25th amendment of the constitution which deals with the removal of the President, this from a guy who hangs out with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and who doesn't believe that Obama was born in this country.
Who do you think Dave Mustaine will vote for?
