The Dillinger Escape Plan is collaborating with Sumerian Comics (Heavy Metal Drummer, Pop Star Assassin) on a new graphic novel entitled One Of Us Is The Killer, inspired by the band's fifth LP of the same name from 2013.
"The One Of Us Is The Killer collaboration with Sumerian Records remains one of The Dillinger Escape Plan's most artistically ambitious achievements to this day," said guitarist Ben Weinman. "Seeing Ash Avildsen and the creative team at the newly founded Sumerian Comics, use this album as the influence for another equally ambitious artistic endeavor is amazing. I can't wait to hold one of these things in my hands, just like I did with the many comic books I enjoyed as a kid."
Credits for the work also include writers Sam Romesburg and Ben Roberts (Rock & Roll Hell), artist Greg Di Angilla (also of Rock & Roll Hell), and colorist Warnia Sahadewa (Doctor Who).
The news comes with the exciting announcement that Weinman will be making an appearance at WonderCon in Anaheim, California on March 26. The guitarist will be signing copies of a limited edition 22-page preview of One of Us Is The Killer.
The plot of One Of Us Is The Killer involves a series of politically motivated assassinations carried out by a killer known only as The Quill A proper revolution blows up in the aftermath of the assassinations within the novel’s confines of a cyber-dominated, unknown American city of the future. Roberts and Romesburg's inspiration is being reported as taking the structure behind the album title to create a larger narrative with related themes and characters.
As far as a Dillinger Escape Plan reunion goes, don't hold your breath. Weinman silenced rumors of a potential Furnace Fest reunion late last year, saying the band has had "no discussions of a reunion at this time."
"I am so glad to see people so excited to talk Dillinger. Really heartwarming. But I can officially confirm that Dillinger Escape Plan will not be playing Furnace Fest. There has been no discussions of a reunion at this time. Apparently, Billy had a dream that we were playing and this was the setlist. He must have eaten before bed again. I told him not to do that."
