VREID – Spikes of God

Melodic melange of black metal and fistpumpin' rock from these Norwegian titans, cruising towards their full length release 'Wild North West' out April 30th. The band has slowly been rolling out chapters of this concept album dealing with man's eternal quest through darkness into light with all of its pitfalls and fears encountered fears along the way, unraveling a grand statement of strength and done with the vibe of Norway prevailing along the pathway. Be on the lookout for Vried on Gimme on April 27th as they take a sidestep and showcase some of their favorite influences along their journey with a guest DJ special.

Still excited this week after talking up Relapse's awesome Zouo reissue, here's the new project from that band's frontman Cherry Nishida. Still as ballistic as Zouo, HC detstruction tempered with an industrial evolution of sorts. Amazing to see Nishida still full of piss and vinegar in 2021, as well as his legacy getting a nice spotlight again from Relapse.

OLDE – Medico Della Peste

Reflecting on old-school plague doctors on this one, Olde rip out of Toronto with a cripsy/crusty amalgamation of St Vitus/older-Neurosis school of sludge. Towering amps smoulder on top of each other, Doug McLarty's formidable yawp cutting through the swampy atmosphere, cosmos-reaching instrumentation without a ton of effects thrown in. Simple and effective heaviosity.

SANDSTORM – Eat Me Alive

A bit like our Lucid Sins pick last week, Vancouver's Sandstorm are upholders of the classic 70s/80s no-frills, kickass metal blueprint, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and a nice splattering of Kiss to boot.

TURBORIDER – Wheels Of Fire

Some highway-cruisin' stainless steel from Colombia, and as the monicker suggests definitely likes to dip into the same vocal grabbag as Senor Halford. No frills, pure and heavy jams.
