VIOLENCE, POUNDER Among The Top Tracks of the Week

Every Thursday, Gimme Radio Program Director, Brian Turner, delivers the top 5 jaw-dropping tracks on Gimme Radio.

Culled from the week’s past shows, these tracks have the Gimme Radio DJs' seal of approval, have the listeners demanding more and the Gimme office buzzing.

Viölence – MotörDemon

The one-man putrid powerhouse known as Dylan Potter. I've been to Sydney's metal record stores and lemme tell you they have a pretty intense microscope on every single facet of the genre and no doubt people go forth start killer bands well versed in the myriad hybrids of sounds. While you can call this 'black and roll' there's little doubt that Aussies know how to maker their own stamp, swinging their thing into the muddiest pools of gunk to do some real damage. Fans of Midnight and (duh) Motörhead and Venom (I mean look at the song title).

Acathexis – Immurement

What a rude shake-awake on this one, visiting the Revolver distro HQ a few weeks back scanning their aisles I realized upon hitting up the Fallen Empire shelf that there was so much coolness to check out. Then I get the word from the label that they were closing up shop. They did drop a last post-Xmas lump of black metal coal in everyone's stocking though, this killer Acathexis trio. The fumes are potent.

Pounder – Uncivilized

Gimme loves this band, and their raging set at Decibel LA Metal and Beer Fest attested to their sheer power. How can you go wrong with Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome, Expulsion), Alejandro Corredor (Nausea LA, live bassist for Vallenfyre) and Tom Draper (Carcass, ex-Angel Witch, Crowning Glory) in the ranks? This has some serious NWOBHM majesty and a bit of Sunset sleaze. Album out February 22 on Hells Headbangers.

Fvzz Popvli – And Let It Die

Friends, Romans, lend me your Fuzzface: these Italians join the ranks of their countrymen's Heavy Psych Sounds imprint (Yawning Man, Glitter Wizard, Nebula) in serving up a Stoogey slant to their Sabbath-baked tones and tunes.

Clear Blue Sky – Birdcatcher

A side slab of proto-greatness from a trio who seemed to have a perfect storm lined up for fame that didn't happen. Vertigo label behind them, Roger Dean art, fancy management, recorded their album a wall away from Zep doing their second LP, had legendary producer in Patrick Campbell-Lyons. Bits of many different heavy-leaning sounds and experimental ideas while remaining blues magoos at their very core.
