Bones – "Execration Rites"

Formed in 2011, these Belgians evoke ancient rituals and sorcery for a unique blast of death metal for their debut LP (after a decade of EPs). Suffocating density, pure blackened energy pumped through a slaughtering sound system, preservation of past with simultaneous annihilation of the future. The lapsed time of actually getting a full length together has been buttressed by endless touring, Bones have found their way into a precise message of doubtless hopelessness.

Tribal Gaze – "And How They Wept For Eternity"

On The Nine Choirs, this Texas quintet have landed themselves a prestigious spot on the Maggot Stomp label roster and have risen to the occasion. Jackhammer rhythms, sweeping riffage and sewer-primed vocal attack all stomp your brains out on this track, cakes of dirt flanking all sonic aspects of their brutal attack. Texas is flying with some incredible death metal these days and these guys are prime movers.

Strigoi – "An Ocean of Blood"

Comprised of Vallenfyre and Paradise Lost members, Strigoi are back with their patented black/death/doom formula to create heavily atmospheric, intensely gut-punching movements of grandeur. Forceful riffs break out over scrapes and squeals, songs come creeping into the room before expanding into epic blowouts full of heavy emotion while simultaneously emptying the room of air. Join them for their Gimme DJ takeover October 5 and DJ Jet welcomes Greg Mackintosh to the New Releases show to chat as well September 23. Get it on vinyl here.

Psychonaut – "Violate Consensus Reality"

Creeping in like a 90's post rock ghost of Slint or Codeine, Belgium's Psychonaut project astral consciousness in their metallic moves, drifting nebulas explode into black holes of psychedelic sound, elements of Euro prog seep into the mix, which is rich and rewarding. This is the title track of their new LP on Pelagic, which seems destined to be a heady, spacious-mind listen.

Ingested – "Tides of Glass"

UK death metal champs return November 4 with Ashes Lie Still (Metal Blade), and finds our Mancunian friends as complex and hard-hitting as ever. Hard to believe this trio pummels so heavily and colorfully, as these compositions arch into flight they reveal a very studied approach to a very unique craft which continues to develop as their albums unfurl. Mark your calendars to celebrate the release on November 11 with their return to the Gimme DJ booth, which has always been delivering top notch selections! Get it on vinyl here.
