STRIGOI – Carved Into the Skin

Grandiose and grimy, this project with Paradise Lost's Greg Mackintosh and ex-Extreme Noise Terror bassist Chris Casket (aided by live guitarist and drummer) rips. The new LP 'Abandon All Faith' hit last week on Nuclear Blast and is a gnawing blast of old-school death to scour and scrub your brainlobes thoroughly.

DISMEMBERMENT – Beneath Bitter Frost

Around since 2010 but only issuing one LP and a flurry of EPs, the return of these Ohio maniacs is a welcome one, and another notch in Creator-Destructor's winning streak of killer releases this year. Blackened-thrash that sears through to the bone, and vocalist/guitarist Luke Shively commands the DJ decks on Gimme Wednesday, December 4th at 4pm PT/7pm ET!

ATOMIC CRETINS – Spiritual Cancer

From a cassette release (also on Bandcamp) these Philthydelphians strive to unite D-Beat, thrash and black metal in true raw form. Live sounding, stumbling, glorious, weird.

Well, I certainly had a roar when I first saw a black-and-white ABBA tee done up ala Darkthrone's logo and image, but 2020 will see the genre of ABBA-Metal actually exist! I mean, there was always a sort of slighty Teutonic, overpowering, majestic element to the way ABBA dominated the world, so here we get some neighboring Finns harnessing that sweet/smothering vibe through a Power/Symphonic means. This is somewhat pure pop, synth-driven, 80's-nodding at its core, even the metal element delivered here projects more glow than gloom.

IRON CLAW – Skullcrusher

Heavy Scots from 1970. After they saw Sabbath play in their hometown they pretty much covered that band's whole first album live and the template paid off in spades as they ripened into a monster-riffic monolith of a band. Though of course not commercially, Iron Claw split in 74, doing a quick reboot in the 90s, then 2010-13 on the heels of a touted reissue, while burning through two replacement vocalists. Not enough people know about Iron Claw and that needs to change!
