Gimme Metal's Top Tracks of the Week

PSYCROPTIC, DEATHWHITE, VOLCANDRA & More Among Gimme Metal's Top Tracks Of The Week

Psycroptic

Gimme Metal Program Director Brian Turner delivers the week's top five office buzz-worthy tracks.

Deathwhite – "White Sleep"

Dark majesty from the few Grey Everlasting (Season of Mist) out this week. Grey times and a perfect accompaniment, guitars swooping in amidst synth soundcsapes, we have them guest DJing Thursday June 16th at 11am ET so tune in and get into the chat.

Soreption – "The Artificial North"

Tech death so dense it sounds like a chopped-n-screwed scrubbing through some demented audio files. Relentless bark in sync with the schizoid rhythm patterns, dazzling displays of musicianship that detract zero from the weird heaviness, an overall stunner of a band on display with stop/start power that truly mimics the qualities of visual strobe effect. A great vid clip to boot.

Volcandra – "Tallon IV"

With their new EP Border World on Prosthetic, this Kentucky outfit is blasting out of the gate with fury. Black metal at heart with flurried, complex prog passages abounding, majestic keyboards guiding the ascending guitar figures upward. Game-themes, robots, sci-fi imagery abounds, it literally sounds like each note is being cobbled to break new terrain even to the band itself. Futuristic fare.

The Halo Effect – "Needless End"

On track to follow In Flames and Soilwork, this Swedish unit excels in grandiose death metal with uplifting connotations for sure. Their skittering attack is levitated by hopeful atmosphere, great solos and breakdowns. Their debut on Nuclear Blast arrives August 12th, and they'll be hosting a Gimme guest special on August 24th!

Psycroptic – "Rend Asunder"

Joe Haley's precision guitar scratch is one of the most remarkable things about this Aussie band. Literally every note is given front-and-center life in your cortex, painting so many hues while the otherworldly tech-death rhythms and vocal delivery spin around like hypersonic trajectories around your head. Psycroptic are back in full Tasmanian devil outfits, whizzing around complexities like they're having a leisurely breakfast. We're super excited for their new LP Divine Council out on Prosthetic. We're extra excited to have them host their first Gimme special on Tuesday June 28th 4pm PT/7pm ET (Weds the 29th 9am Oz time) and back to back with their Oz death brethren Werewolves on right after!
