Gimme Metal Program Director Brian Turner delivers the week's top 5 office buzz-worthy tracks.

OPALGLAS – Arizona

After catching the "Hive" video a couple months ago I was convinced this one man entity (aka Christian Kolf) was out to do a fairly traditional update of drum-n-bass gone darkly, but the newly-released "Arizona" raises the bar for a much more pummeling swing into buzzing bass, industrial feedback-soaked vocals, full doomy realization of the crust Aphex Twin was looking for now and again in his own stuff. Frank Godla of this very publication also added his hosannas, and the quote of Kolf hoping to meld visual and audio sensory overload to present one package makes a lot of sense with this abstract, synapse-overpowering vidclip.

NELECC – A Thousand Suns

Not super new, but just getting word at Gimme HQ of this gorgeously dismal slab of atmospheric black metal composed by one man from Kenya. Heavy nature themes, distorted guitars and vocal whispers that sound like wind sweeping through a valley, glorious layers of lo-tech synths flanking the mix, a majestic, homegrown document of what can be accomplished with minimal means and maximum spirit.

DKHARMAKHAOZ – The Way With the Serpent Entwined

This Belarusian duo emerges from Iron Bonehead's roster, adding heaps of alien atmosphere to some classic black metal overtures. No retro leanings though, this is pure of-the-times darkness, buzzing riffage like cavernous vultures and heavy/slowly-intoned vocals. The debut LP 'Proclamation ov the Black Suns" is out July 31.

SHROUD OF VULTURE – The Altar

Groove doom! With some splatters of death, a killer, driving track from this Indiana foursome. Sludge snaps into doubletime, frenetic vocals, undeniably raw tones, rhythmic bulldozing to drive it all home.

ETERNAL ABYSS – Waiting For the End of Our Cursed Existence

Some black metal from Paraguay featured on the recent Battleflutes and Sideways Skulls: raw, dismal proponents of "Necrosound" and wishing death to all slick studio production. Seems Aña takes on all music duties and vocal composition and dutifully injects the proceedings with a good dose of Latin frost.
