NECROT – Stench of Decay

Vocalist/bassist Luca Indrio of Bay Area death metal legends Necrot unveiled the first single from the forthcoming 'Mortal' LP (out August 28 on Tankcrimes) during his guest spin on Gimme this past week, and the second and third singles will be hosted by the other two members on specials June 29th and July 29th! The band continues to fully realize total destruction as a trio, and by all accounts the latest turns up the heat of their last 'Blood Offerings'. This first taste certainly affirms.

MANTAR – Ghost Highway

Credited to be somewhere between the Melvins and Darkthrone, Hamburg's Mantar gives a nod to the former with a full album of grunge covers. While covering the pastorally-psychedelic ooze of Mazzy Star might not fit in with the rest of 'Grungetown Hooligan II"s stabs at L7, Sonic Youth, Babes In Toyland and 7 Year Bitch tunes, it does steep this version in some heavy vibes replicating the simmering middle-eastern drone guitar vibe into something quite denser and heavier.

BELL WITCH/AERIAL RUIN – Heaven Torn Low II (The Troll)

This collaborative doomgaze effort titled Stygian Bough arrives June 26th on Profound Lore, a wedding of the Seattle duo (BW) and solo dark folk artist Erik Moggridge (AR), and the leadoff offering gently laps at the brainlobes with a combination of sweet feedback and waves of chord crawl. Look out for their Gimme guest DJ special forthcoming.

COSMIC PUTREFACTION – This Landscape Sublimates Oblivion to Obliteration

'The Horizons Towards Which Splendor Withers' on the great I, Voidhanger imprint is the latest from the Italian entity just known as G.G., who whips up a relatively full furnace of rich and varied death metal moves. Only a year after the last release, CP/GG fire on all cylinders with him taking on vocals (guests last time), caking dirt on the raw blasts of sound coupled with cosmic atmosphere.

CARACH ANGREN – Operation Compass

Translated as "Iron Jaws" in Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings', Carach Angren pull out a crisp-sounding slab of horror metal with distinct components, trim triple-time drum blasts, swooning synths and symphonic breakdowns, creepily whispered-in-your-ear vocals all recreating bleak historic moments (a recurring theme). From their forthcoming Season of Mist LP 'Franckensteina Strataemonatus' coming June 26th.
