Thanks to our Monique for the heads up on the ladies of Asagraum, holding down the fort on behalf of the Netherlands' geographically-low-lying black metal scene. 'Dawn of Infinite Fire' is their sophomore release, vaulting heaps of blastbeats, darkness, and vocalist Obscura's cracked-n-mangled attack. GURT – Bongs Of Praise
Brits who appropriate this title from a TV show called 'Songs of Praise', Gurt's "party doom" aesthetic might create some eyerolls amongst some (not to mention song titles like "Dr. Strangeleaf" and "The Joint of No Return"), but their stoned aim is true. Swampy, classic rock-evoking, definitely not climbing any Holy Mountains or anything in seriousness, bet they're a hoot live.
VAMACHARA – Deliverance
As the lines between hardcore and metal continue to blur, the latest So Cal offering from the Closed Casket stable present themselves here in a non-fancy room backdrop raw and unfettered by anything else besides what they do. An air-raid siren feedback intro segues into bludgeoning riffs and hair-raising throat-tear, this stomps all over the place and previews an EP out later this month.
