Heard this on Anthony Barkewicz's Grave Convulsions show: insanely brutal grind/noisecore outfit out of the Pacific Northwest with ex-Sissy Spacek/Knelt Rote members, basically vox/drums and one guy blasting it out on the 'disinstrument', amplified strings jerry-rigged to a chunk of wood. They did a demo and 2012 LP and called it quits but it's getting exhumed for a proper release now on Nerve Altar.
CURSE – The Countess
Wildass black/thrash out of Sweden who emerged then called it quits in 2012, but apparently back on Redefining Darkness with a cassette recorded basically live in studio 2019. Choatic, churning, burning bleakness.
CAUSTIC VISION – Uranium Decay
From the new 'Death Posture' out on Profound Lore (in its 26 minute full LP glory), some primo Carcass moves sandblasted in your face. Shards of death metal diffused through a thick gauze of throat gargle, another blistering bubble in the Profound Lore catalogue.
HORISONT – Free Riding
It's unlikely we can top the You Tube user who commented "Uriah Heep and Thin Lizzy abducted by UFO", which is a pretty good summation! Horisont return with a soaring track reflecting on personal tragedy, and foreshadowing their new LP 'Sudden Death' coming in May on Century Media. We are also welcoming the band for a guest DJ special as part of our Gimme Relief DJ series April 18th.
NAGLFAR – Cerecloth
First rumblings in eight years from these Swedes, their 7th album due May 8th on Century Media, also hosting a Gimme Relief DJ special May 15th. There's an ambience in their onslaught, an almost abnormal collision of emotion and bludgeoning destruction that go hand in hand to create some cinematic quality to what they do, perhaps an effect of recording at guitarist Marcus Norman's studio where they hone the craft to perfection. Looking forward to this one.
