Gimme Metal's Top Tracks of the Week

INTER ARMA, AGENT STEELE Among The Top Tracks of the Week

Inter Arma

Every Thursday, Gimme Radio Program Director, Brian Turner, delivers the top 5 jaw-dropping tracks on Gimme Radio.

Culled from the week’s past shows, these tracks have the Gimme Radio DJs' seal of approval, have the listeners demanding more and the Gimme office buzzing.

INTER ARMA – Howling Lands

Excited for their Philly gig this week Gimme will be in attendance of, and also a forthcoming DJ special down the road. Richmond quintet specialize in expansive, sweeping, epic burning-towers heaviness of Neurosis-like degree. Multi-instrumentalist TJ Childers creates the vibe with an arsenal of drums, noise, vox, synths, lapsteel and other effects to conjure up some mighty wind.

HEILUNG – Norupo

Worldy metal fans might appreciate this Danish trio of Kai Uwe Faust, Maria Franz and Christopher Juul, a more subtle kind of dark sound based around nature-as-musique concrete, ancient instrumentation, Icelandic poetry based around 4th-century runology.

VAURA – Basilisk-The Infinite Corpse

More atmospherics from the trio of Kevin Hufnagel (Gorguts), Toby Driver (Kayo Dot), and Charlie Schmid. Cascading guitar and electronics, anguished vocals once again checking the box to indicate that Tilt/4AD-era Scott Walker will probably have more of an influence on the future of metal than most people had imagined.

BURNING SAVIOURS – The Witches

When a Swedish band names itself after a Pentagram jam you know you have to at least lend an ear. New single on Mothervan label finds them revamped after a split and shift (during the interim Whyte Ash was formed as well), but in great form with strident, fuzz-flanked riffs of heavy doomage.

AGENT STEEL – Bleed for the Godz

A vintage one recently played on Anderson Tiago's Back to the Metal showcase of NWOBHM-strain greatness of Gimme, this slab of speed from 80's LA rules. For two years of the millenium they had to change their name to Order of the Illuminati (!), and a You Tube comment might aptly sum everything up in a tidy way: "Manowar on coke."
