ILSA – Shibboleth

These DC heavies have landed on Relapse with 'Preyer' and this teaser finds that albums conceived and recorded in lockdown can certainly equate the pummel of those not. The sextet make a fearsome racket full of raw punk intensity, and you can check out their Gimme guest DJ special on December 22.

DEEDS OF FLESH – Nucleus

A triumphant reboot of some titans of tech death metal, their first in seven years, and following the sad passing of vocalist Erik Lindmark of sclerosis in 2018. It's a work of nonstop brutality, aided by pals from Gorguts, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse and more.

BURNING PALACE – Plagues

Visceral, animated death lunacy from Santa Rosa, CA, from the Transylvanian Tapes label. Those into the sheer dissonant chaos of bands like Gorguts can hold these guys dear: blasted technical workouts, gutteral vocals and cascading drum rhythms that offer confused counterpoint even before the last beat settles. It all hovers like some mutated-DNA three-headed beast out of the speakers, and I have the feeling we'll be hearing a lot more from them.

MEDIEVAL DEMON – Arcadian Witchcraft

Super unusual Greek black metal that co-mingles with ever-present blasts of dramatic church organ, almost like a hybrid of Italo-horror epic soundtracks and cavernous tortured screams from beyond. Founded in 1993 by brothers Lord Apollyon and Sirokous, this track is as relentlessly frantic as anything they've done previous. Layered, dense, dramatic and destroying stuff.

KNOLL – Scattered Prism

College maniacs from Memphis already saddled up with bills sharing the stage with the likes of Negative Approach and Black Dahlia Murder, the fiery furnace Knoll creates weds hyper-precision, digital glitchology and unfettered damaged-HC aesthetic into a brutal brew of blackened death.
