Gimme Metal's Top Tracks of the Week

GOJIRA, CRYPTIC HATRED, GULCH Among Gimme's Top Tracks of the Week

Gojira

Gimme Metal Program Director Brian Turner delivers the week's top 5 office buzz-worthy tracks.

CRYPTIC HATRED – Skeletal Remains

Primitive demo from some 17 year old Finnish death heads with strong allegiance to all things Deicide/Cannibal Corpse/Sweden. Self-professed interest in "zombies, blood, killing this and that", basic as hell recording quality but, as they say, the love shines through.

GULCH – Impenetrable Cerebral Fortress

Title track to this July release and worthy addition to the Closed Casket Activities stable. Santa Cruz HC with a spiky metallic edge, screamo speed and power with definite chug force in the riffage hitting all the good spots.

GOJIRA – Another World

Calling your last album 'Magma' is a throwdown heavy statement indeed, and this preview of Gojira's latest endeavor is full of more of what their fans dig: grandiose production, ornate flourishes, epic vocal arrangements all propelled by crushing riffs. Fantastic animated video depicting the band creating wormholes, abandoning Earth only to return in its wasted state years later.

ATOMIC BITCHWAX – You Got It

Chris, Garrett and Bob are back, still Jersey riffmongers (all ex-Monster Magnet) and their return video clip seems rather fitting having them blast at full speed through a subway tunnel. Gotta love the interspersed footage of the video's star macing all the creepos in sight who hoot and holler at her on the streets. We're looking forward to the whole Tee Pee album, and the band's September 8th DJ set right here on Gimme Metal.

PYRRHON – Abcess Time

Also from NYC, Pyrrhon crush and hiss along with the finest moments of Swans and early Godflesh, no-wave guitar scrape battles fucked up vocals and batches of silent space that crush all the oxygen in the room. I don't know why New York in particular holds a chokehold over experimental metal, but whatever's in the Gowanus Canal seems to be creeping out in great musical form time and time again. Check out Pyrrhon's DJ set on Gimme: Wednesday August 26th 10am PT/1pm ET.
