FROGOROTH – Croaking For Cernunnos
The Frog Cvlt has arrived (literally, that is the name of their album). No info whatsoever about this mysterious duo of Bufonidae (vocals) and
Anuridae (everything else), and in case you were wondering, Bufonidae is an actual frog. Thanks for the heads up from Battleflutes and Sideways Skulls proprietor Andee.
KROSIS – Begonia
An extended grueling growl and industrial jackhammer intro segues into a strident pummel that never relents. The Raleigh quintet have battened down an assured formula of deathcore and weird prog moves, and their new EP 'E.V.I.L.' hits in January.
APPARITION – Drowning in the Stream of Consciousness
A big blast of doom-tinged death from California, from their brand new 'Feel' LP out on Profound Lore last week. Snaky prog time-shift, coil-springy guitarwork, gutteral grunts abound. Interesting atmospheric flares.
IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT – Transmission From Mercury
Horns on their headgear, horns as instruments utilized, this is the headscratch that is Imperial Triumphant. Extreme metal, jazz, noise, no-wave and everything else falls into their bucket, and having seen them live I have to say it's truly a preferred way to behold their majesty. Which is great, because Century Media is about to issue their new 'Live at the Slipper Room' document, and the band comes back for its THIRD guest DJ special on Gimme December 3rd!
