Gimme Metal Program Director Brian Turner delivers the week's top 5 office buzz-worthy tracks.

Therion – "Marjin Min Mar"

Titled from the Quraan description the origin of the Jinn being created from the flame of smokeless fire, Therion continue their mission of birthing symphonic, colorful metal a long road down from their death origins. Soaring operatic vocals, electric folk leads, cushy production uplifts more than menaces these days. Leviathan II is out October 28 on Nuclear Blast. Get it here on Gimme Metal.

Darkthrone – "Caravan of Broken Ghosts"

Back on the attack one short year after Eternal Hails, Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, this new track from the forthcoming Astral Fortress framed a trudging nomad's soundtrack through a dark blizzard as only Darkthrone know how. Creaking acoustic intro, a defiant, slow crawl into a full speed-chug and layer after layer of lo-tech fuzzified guitar sound busting through the haze of this epic series of movements throughout the song. Get it here on Gimme Metal.

Deströyer 666 – "Andraste"

Slogging it out steadily since 1994 this one-time solo project of Oz's Bestial Warlust's guitarist KK has landed on Season of Mist with Never Surrender and finds them in battlezone-storming glory. Militant chants, tribal drums and flurrying guitars thrash to oblivion here. Caveman-like charge amidst soaring walls of sonic artillery abound, it's great to see these guys endure so relentlessly and hone their craft solidly to arrive at this juncture in their story. Get it here on Gimme Metal.

Big|Brave – "carvers, farriers and knaves"

This Canuck trio returns with a towering leadoff single, Robin Wattie's soulcry defiant in the introductory rumble of an oncoming avalanche which then seamlessly plows into the mix with see-sawing, nausea-inducing whoosh. Sparse, gut-walloping drums plod in as an anarchic melee ensues, holding its structure together yet exploding into amazing chaos. nature morte is out in February on Thrill Jockey.

Ground – "Indurated Juvenescence"

"False Grind" self-inflicted monicker notwithstanding, this New Jersey crew actually stir up said genre's pot with ample additions of powerviolence and old fashioned punk insanity. Habitual Self Abuse releases the bats with aplomb and fury, their combination of influences well reflective of the information-overload shit-ass times we dwell in. A good flick of the switch and an inferno of a record.
