Get The Shot – "Survival Denied"

Freezing Quebec winters offer good impetus for creating the aggo hardcore it seems. Get the Shot led a solid charge the last few years blasting it up at international festivals with their patent combo of grindy thrash/HC riffage and solid Obituary/Cannibal Corpse influence. Munchin'.

Bekor Qilish – "Cryptic Hatred"

From their new 'Throes Of Death From The Dreamed Nihilism' on I, Voidhanger label. This mainly solo project of Italy's Andrea Bruzzone harks back to some familiar moves but taking it into some weird dissonant avant terrain not unlike Imperial Triumphant. Sweeping, dramatic, stop-starts punctuated by alien bumblebee invocations in the weird guitar flurries, cavernous vocal outcries, complex tech-time signatures and epic synths abound.

White Ward – "Cronus"

Recently heard on Horrox's By This Wax I Rule! program, I can see an initial appeal for Mr. H. as this implements some saxophones! Ukraine-bred, this tune intros with some moody post-rock guitar figures before clicking into full melodic black metal mode. With grace and poise, its design is elegant, rich with instrumentation and compositional attention, yet still froths over at the rim with anarchic fury.

Behemoth – "Off To War!"

The legends around Nergal and his Polish crew run heavy, but despite the newsworthiness of Behemoth they continue to challenge their own conventions and experiment in every dark corner they can, while finetuning their live show to blast (and singe literally) audience members around the world. An escalation in the more militant aspects of their sounds certainly fits the times (and this song title), the pandemic time they took to fine-tune the latest Opvs Contra Natvram surely reflects some heavy duty work regimen. Keep it tuned to Gimme for news on some on-air appearances soon from Nergal, who's graced our netwaves a number of times already.

Manticore – "Empty Eyes Hollow Temple"

Potent blackened death from Endless Scourge of Torment, Manticore's first in ten years. Grim in atmosphere, warring in theme, it may not all be dour as the new LP promises a Twisted Sister cover!
