Gimme Metal Program Director Brian Turner delivers the week's top 5 office buzz-worthy tracks.

AKHLYS – Pnigalion

Naas Alcameth's (ex-Nightbringer/Bestia Arcana) blistering black metal returns after a five year lapse out of its Colorado base. Based around the concept of sleep paralysis, this epic track swirls in dark ambience, keyboard-heavy trepidation, with generous fuzz blast and mournful vocal accompaniment.

EYEHATEGOD – High Risk Trigger

New Orleans' sludge kings return with a new release in March and teaser herein. No strangers to the blunt trauma politicians with a beef stick about the band have thwacked around directly on them in recent times, it's no surprise that the topicality of this track ruminates on the shit-shape of all things socially and politically. With frontman Mike IX Williams' liver failure (and progress back to health) since the band's last outing seven years back, we can also anticipate some new fire and renewal to lyrically cloak the new full length.

DISFIGURING THE GODDESS – Sooth/Machine Controlling

If Cameron Argon's 16 RPM vocals aren't enough to rumble bowels, and this video isn't enough to induce a spittake, Disfiguring The Goddess' Sooth release has arrived and continues his long path down the road of sample-delic sorrow. He's also known as DJ Big Chocolate, and hosts a Gimme special coming up in February when we'll have more DTG action.

FARER – Moros

Good explorations from this Dutch doom trio on their latest 'Monad' LP (Aethetic Death/Tartarus). It's decidedly simplistic in composition: sprawling figures of post-rock-tinged slabs of sound, infused with terrific FX and sound design. This track is punctuated with the vibe of dozens of metallic insects rubbing their wings over the foundation being laid down, the vocals spiral in and the track levitates into new stratospheres.

GRAVFRAKTAL – Carnage Into Dimensional Oblivion

'Unhallowed Death Triumph' bellows forth on Iron Bonehead vinyl this month from this Swedish crew boasting pedigree from acts like Runemagick, Pagan Rites and Bestial Mockery. It's blackened death metal in a unique sense, some have compared them to Necrophobic, in fact. Their clarity is crisp but undeniably filth-encrusted. Win win.
