Today, November 18, 2015 marks 53 years that Kirk Hammett has lived on this earth. To celebrate, our buddies in Meek Is Murder (one of whom is more than a buddy, Frank Godla, the drummer co-owns this very website) decided to give him the gift of a cover of, arguably, one of Metallica's heaviest songs, "Blackened."

The original version of "Blackened" kicks off the …And Justice for All album and clocks in at around 6:40, while Meek is Murder's version trims about 66% of the fat by clocking in at 2:03.

This officially makes "Blackened" the second longest song in Meek is Murder's catalog. Coincidentally, Kirk Hammett himself seems to dig the band. Check out Meek is Murder's latest ep, Onward released earlier this year:
