Tech-Death Tuesday: Revel In WORMHOLE’s Slam Infused Sickness With “Quad MB”

Wormhole

Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

It seems like just yesterday that Wormhole first annihilated my eardrums upon hearing an early copy of Genesis in 2016. I knew I had to help in some way and it was awesome to host the early album stream here. On January 14th, the tech-slam monsters will unleash their highly impressive second album, The Weakest Among Us.

We’ve got the exclusive premiere of a brand new song from it called “Quad MB” that leans in more towards the brutal and slam facets of their sound. Today’s premiere of “Quad MB” lays out all the big and little shifts Wormhole has achieved this go around in one gnarly and compact package. Instead of the dual-vocal attack found on Genesis, the group’s former live vocalist Anshuman has taken over the bestial mouth vomit role admirably. Exist bassist Alex Weber was tapped as the session bass player and he adds a new layer of complexity and depth to their sound. Lastly, while I didn’t have an issue with the programmed drums on Genesis, having Matt Tillett bring that creative and human element as a real drummer for the new album is another awesome upgrade.

As usual, I tried to get some background information from the band about their upcoming music. Wormhole guitarist Sanil says “The idea behind The Weakest Among Us was to make an album that was this marriage of all the elements of death metal and extreme metal that we loved, wrapped up into one band. We took the “techslam” thing to heart. Blast beats, counterpoint, shreddy guitar solos, melody, gutturals, and ignorant slams, all of it.

Variety is a big thing for us, so we wanted to create and put out more than just one interpretation of this “techslam” idea. Whereas the other singles we had released had a lot more melody and catchy bits mixed in, "Quad MB" is a little more straight forward, and focuses on the grooves and the chugs.”

That pretty much says it all when it comes to the new Wormhole album and what “Quad MB” has to offer. So be sure to check out today’s premiere of “Quad MB” below. You can pre-order The Weakest Among Us through The Lacerated Enemy Records Bigcartel store and through Bandcamp. You can follow the group over on the Wormhole Facebook page.
