Ever the fan of all things eerie and eccentric, the chance to premiere this new Tome of the Unreplenished song could not be passed up. The now UK-based band started as a solo project by the founding member, Hermes, in 2012. Years have passed and now the project has grown into a full band. The atmospheric black metal has evolved into something far more sinister. 2017 will introduce the first part in a trilogy of albums called Cosmoprism. The first installment of the collection arrives on February 3, entitled Cosmoprism: The Theurgy – Act I. Today, Metal Injection is lucky to present the album's second track in anticipation of its upcoming release.
"Dead Body of God" is a highly immersive exercise in blackened noise. Tome of the Unreplenished brought in Ayloss, of Spectral Lore fame, a mastermind of immersive and atmospheric black metal to contribute to the album. Together, the quartet utilized over 3o instruments to craft menacing specters like this new song. Harsh synthesizers grind, strings moan and wail. A commanding voice that wallows within the mix, roars of a celestial manifesto. Yet, these descriptions barely scratch the surface. "Dead Body of God" is utterly haunting. It is easy to become lost and afraid amongst its complex layers. Hermes, had this to say about the new album and the song. "Dead Body of God":
The Cosmoprism series is a violent reversal of sound and emotion from the previously established sound of Tome of the Unreplenished, in an act of subversion of all pre-existing conceptions. This trilogy aims to stir the listener on a spiral of an unbearable and oppressive solitude, in an almost palpable transcendental horror.
The Theurgy is a collage of sounds created with a plethora of unconventional instruments. The recordings had a ritualistic approach behind them and the songs were mostly improvised. To capture this ritualistic feeling, the instruments were recorded in an outdoor environment and in a live recording setup.
"Dead Body of God" symbolizes the death of spirituality and descension to a negative celestial realm in one massive stellar event. Just like all the songs in The Theurgy, "Dead Body of God" focuses on a monumental happening, enriched with Neoplatonic elements.
Tome of the Unreplenished is no longer a one-man project, it is embraced by talented musicians Aort (CODE) and Dictator (Necrosadist) who I admire as artists and as people. We share the same thoughts and visions in music and it’s a great feeling having them on this journey. It was a pleasant experience having Ayloss (Spectral Lore) contribute in this release and adding his own touch to the whole concept.
