DEAD NEANDERTHALS "Bear Mace" Us With Blast Beats And Sax

dead neanderthals – rat licker

It’s Friday and Fridays rule so let’s noisejazz away the rest of the day with some new Dead Neanderthals.

Gotta admit, I do not think most people expected something like this for their Friday, but Dead Neanderthals have some new stuff dropping soon. Their latest 7” Rat Licker is on its way out in a week and a half and we have something to get the noisecore weirdos out there amped up. And I mean that in the most loving way. Saxaphone and blast beats, let’s go.

For today, we have the opener of the album, “Bear Mace.” Now if you have never heard Dead Neanderthals before, you might have heard their name in the grind/noisecore circles. The Nijmegen, Netherlands two-piece is a jazz/grind hybrid that is very close to a noisecore sound. Their sound is chaotic but also very caveman, for lack of a better term. They can be very heavy, but they can also be very punk. It is free-jazz meets some very raw grindcore. But that is also not the entire picture because their discography is actually pretty varied, but, well, you get the idea. They do what they want.

“Bear Mace” is, in essence, blast beats and saxophone. It starts out as some noisey punk, with the saxophone acting like shifting feedback before becoming frenzied. From there the sound varies, going fast, slowing down, and then speeding up some more before ending. The track is under a minute and is something feels like ESP Mayhem. It is trip for the folks that like their grind weird and jazzy. Blast beats and sax, what more do you need on a Friday?
