The Monday Grind: THE SOUND THAT ENDS CREATION Leave Roses, Thorns And Dead Unicorns In Their Wake

It's Monday and Mondays suck, so let's grind it out with The Sound That Ends Creation's Roses, Thorns, and Dead Unicorns.

I haven't been particularily heavy on the technical bands this year. Well, that changes for this installment with the latest release and full-length debut from Allen, TX's The Sound That Ends Creation. The one man unit by Chris Dearing is an amalgamation of grinding savagry, jazzy groove, death metal heaviness, cinematic clips, and other surprises.

You gotta love the song titles. Opening with "When God Put Teeth In Your Mouth, He Ruined A Perfectly Good Asshole", the music takes little time to really get moving. The blasting is immediate, the fret work is dizzying, and that smooth, jazzy piano makes me feel like we're grinding it out in a fancy lounge. Complete with pin-stripe suits and martinis.

There's a kind of addictive quality to this record. It's feral tech-grind with class. It's the way Dearing throws listeners through the ringer one track after the other keeps you coming back. Like the breakdown as Dearing continues to wail away on his guitar in "There Isn't A Bus Short Enough For You To Throw Up In." Or the transition to an electronica-esque in "Unfortunately, The Tide Pod Hysteria Is Driven More By Politics Than Science", not to mention its sweet, sweet lounge section. The sass, sax and gutteral gurgle and break of "Santa Jesus God Loves You No Matter What." Gods, the list goes on and on.

By the time everything wraps up and a quote from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation wraps things up, I'm ready for another round. The Sound That Ends Creation is beastial, socially critical and classy in the best ways. It's weird, mathy, jazzy, grinding stuff but it's the best of it's kind. If you can imagine Tommy Doresy/Frank Sinatra sessions while directing the grinding madness of Brutal Truth and Celphalic Carnage, then you have an…idea of what's going on here. Delicious, delicious tech-grinding, experimental, mathy, jazzy madness. Get grinding.

I'm here.
