The Petaluma, California trio of Ursa released their first full-length album in the dying days of October. The epic doom trio is a side project comprised of three-fourths the members of the Black Metal band, Cormorant. Brennan Kunkel (drums), Matt Solis (bass and vocals), and Nick Cohon (guitars and synths) formed Ursa earlier this year to play a fabled and progressive brand of doom. Their newest effort, The Yerba Buena Sessions, is five tracks of adventurous metal that fills the brain with hazy tales that come complete with magical beings and fantastic creatures.
Opening track, "Wizard's Path", warns the traveler of the narrative to heed the wisdom of the wizard and follow along a safe path to a Golden Hall. "Frost Giantess" brings an colossal fight, deep in the wilderness, between the main character and a giantess bathed in the blood of peasants. The fanciful stories carry on throughout as the listener encounters a witches' coven, Egyptian mythos, and a powerful mountain dragon.

For those that are interested, Cormorant is also in the process of creating their new studio album. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming months for more news and material.
