It's Friday and it's been a tough week. The week started with the sad news of GWAR frontman Dave Brockie's passing. We've seen touching tributes pour in from his bandmates, The Daily Show, Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe and other musicians.
With his official public memorial not happening until this summer, Brockie's Facebook page has become the de-facto place for fans to leave their memories. I have been visiting the page constantly as a grieving mechanism and it never fails to put a smile on my face.
I found a few tributes I thought I'd share on here.
BoingBoing posted a nice tribute, and they found on Youtube video of the first GWAR show ever. It's amazing how far the GWAR vision has come in 30 years, all done using DIY techniques:

They also unearthed an early GWAR show flyer:
Meanwhile, The Daily Beast writer Andy Hinds, who was a high school friend of Brockie's also posted a very touching tribute of the man that Brockie was. Justin Norton at Decibel also posted a great tribute from a different perspective.
Meanwhile, back on his Facebook page, photographer Cindy Hicks unearthed some amazing photos she took of an early GWAR show at VCU Shafer Court on Halloween, 1986 in Richmond. I can only imagine what people thought at that time:
