We've truly lost one of the greats. I am stunned and saddened to report on the death of GWAR frontman Dave Brockie, better known as Oderus Urungus.
Richmond's Style Weekly broke the news that Brockie was found dead in his apartment by his roommate last night, Sunday March 24th. Police investigators do not suspect any foul play. The news was confirmed this morning via a post by Gwar-offshoot band Mobile Death Camp, which feautres some of the "slaves" as members.
Update: GWAR manager Jack Flanagan has released an official statement confirming the death.
No further details were available at this time. GWAR's management is expected to make a statement at 1pm eastern this afternoon.
Having worked very closely with Brockie and the rest of the band, I can personally say that I have never met anybody more quick-witted and intelligent than Brockie. The guy was a creative genius, and an inspiration to be around. It is a true loss for the metal community. Brockie has given us many laughs over the years, I will never forget the times he allowed us to capture a bit of his magic. RIP Dave. Our thoughts and condolences are with the band and his family.
