Decibel's Clips of the Month

Decibel Clips of the Month, March 2014: MENACE, INDIAN, EYE OF SOLITUDE and a classic clip from CARCASS

Every month, Decibel scribe Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the monthly metal mag. under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from Menace, Indian, Eye of Solitude, and a classic clip from Carcass.

Menace – “I Live With Your Ghost”

So there’s this new Mega Man game, but he’s kind of steampunk now and a little more badass. The creators took all of the cut scenes from the new game and edited them together in a random order, and then Menace put a song over it. Or yeah, maybe I made all that up, but seriously, this one is a head-scratcher. At one point, it looks like not-Mega Man is literally drowning in space, and then he’s inside a giant cube that’s dancing. What kind of baloney is that? Anyway, I just Googled “steampunk Mega Man” and people are fucking dorks.

Indian – “Rhetoric of No”

Well, this sure is a bummer. Essentially just animate the inside of an Eyehategod record for six and a half minutes, and this is what I’m watching right now. It’s a sunny afternoon and I just saw a woman being stabbed in the chest with an ice pick. And yes, this is way NSFW, with the stabbings and the naked women and the stabbing of the naked women. I know some of you goddamn weirdos are into this shit, but for everyone else, I suggest the YouTube version that shows an image of the record and where you can buy a T-shirt.

Eye of Solitude – “Act II: Where the Descent Began”

This video opens with an ad for the company that made the video, boasting of their affordable rates. So, I was stoked immediately, but not much after that is notable. The eight subsequent minutes are mostly just the band playing and the singer wandering around a house after having his eyes freshly carved from his head. I imagine a newly blind man who can barely make it up the stairs wouldn’t have such nice penmanship, but he eats a piece of paper, gets hanged and then everything plays backwards. I guess we’ll have to wait until Act III to see what the fuck any of that meant.

CLASSIC CLIP: Carcass – “Heartwork”

Listen, we have a lot of fun here at [insert name of whatever kid’s Tumblr this gets posted to], but there is nothing funny about “Heartwork.” I mean, it has always been kind of weird that they’re wearing headphones in half the footage, and occasionally their hair being blown all over the place can seem like a commercial for Pantene Pro-V. But they weld a guy in the giant Heartwork sculpture! Come on! Twenty years later, how fucking cool is that? When homeboy with the goggles sticks his hand out toward the camera, you can almost hear him thinking, “That’s right, world, me and the fellas here are shitting all over your mind.”
