DECIBEL's Clips of the Month for June 2012: MESHUGGAH, MUNICIPAL WASTE, TERRORIZER, PARADISE LOST

Every month, Decibel rabble rouser Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the mag under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from Meshuggah, Municipal Waste, Terrorizer and Paradise Lost.

Meshuggah – “Break the Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion”

Considering that the last Meshuggah video I saw was a guy turned into some sort of demon dog by an albino, I expected a little more than the band in a poorly lit room while they either kind of vibrated or played reaaaaal slooooow. I mean, the song is seriously fucking balls deep in radness, and seeing the dudes in action gives it maybe a dash more intensity—but, guys, remember the demon dog? I’m sure that thing’s just waiting by the phone.

Municipal Waste – “The Fatal Feast”

This is some real fancy low-budget horror space schlock that really couldn’t suit the six-pack thrash of Municipal Waste better. Just headbanging, killing astronauts, getting covered in gore, playing severed organs, the whole bit. And it really is reassuring that, even when Dave Witte is tearing apart your abdomen to greedily devour your bloody entrails, he still looks like the nicest, gentlest soul.

Terrorizer – “Hordes of Zombies”

When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth, and they will be boring. Seriously, when the zombies show up in this video (after a bunch of old stock footage compiled from other music videos that use old stock footage), all they do is hobble around Vegas, an old train yard and someone’s apartment. Shouldn’t a horde of zombies be turning an orphanage into a buffet or mutilating a nightclub instead of just mugging for the camera? At one point, a bunch of them are playing the slots, for god’s sake. Maybe I’m missing the point of this video, but if I saw a zombie stop to chug a beer, I wouldn’t exactly fear for my life… unless they were from that Municipal Waste video.

(CLASSIC CLIP) Paradise Lost – “Pity the Sadness”

Those fucking lights, guys. Jesus. I understand that years ago there was nothing stopping people from hating sleeves and rocking the vest/no-shirt look, but all those flickering halogens are giving me the most half-assed epileptic seizure. And real quick, back to the guitar player or anyone who plays their pointed headstocked six-string without a shirt on: Are you constantly getting rashes on your tummy, or do apply a special cream before your solos?

Read about these four bands and more in this month's issue of Decibel Magazine, in finer stores everywhere or available at Decibel's official web store.
