Decibel Clips of the Month – December 2012: Videos from PIG DESTROYER, NAPALM DEATH, CRADLE OF FILTH, PANTERA

Every month, Decibel scribe Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the mag under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from Pig Destroyer, Napalm Death, Cradle of Filth and a classic clip from Pantera.

Pig Destroyer, “The Diplomat”

This video asks the question: What if instead of a monolith at the beginning of 2001, there was a guy in a suit named The Diplomat who came down in a space Rolls Royce with his faceless chauffeur and gave green-blooded, parkour monkeys machine guns until they turned on him? Man, that is one shitty question.

Napalm Death, “Everyday Pox”

This is the perfect old-school ’90s live footage video. This may actually be a shot-for-shot remake of Metallica’s “Wherever I May Roam.” Kind of an odd choice, though, for them to pair the live footage with the song that has a bunch of horns. I mean, I know I’m not watching an actual live video, but I kind of felt like a dick trying to see if Shane Embury had pulled out a trumpet.

Cradle of Filth, “Frost on Her Pillow”

Cradle of Filth is the exact band I’d expect to think a spinning wheel is metal enough to be in a video. Okay, I guess this some sort of twisted take on Sleeping Beauty or somesuch, but the non-band shots are about 90 percent a girl either walking or laying down. Dudes, you guys sprung for two gnarly demon suits—maybe you could have given them a little more time on the field.

Pantera, “This Love”

What in the holy hell is this? I guess I don’t remember from the Headbangers Ball days, but after Phil screams “No more head trips!” they actually cut out the breakdown and head straight into Dimebag soloing in some fog. Who agreed to this bullshit? I mean, the whole prostitutes being beaten and killed and all that is pretty appalling, but bring me the head of the audio editor.
