What is it with heavy metal fans and purity tests? Why do some want the genre to be so insular? One popular TikTok user, Zaria, is not having any of it. You see, she wore a Metallica shirt in one of her videos and this led to gatekeeping metalheads demanding she name three Metallica songs, a cliché of elitism at this point.
Naturally, Zaria is in fact a Metallica fan so she responded by posting a selection of videos where she is shredding along to some classic Metallica tunes. Of course Zaria is a real fan, and even if she couldn't name three songs, so what? Keeping on with this imaginary scenario that a person could not name three songs, if they are wearing the shirt and showing interest, why not try to introduce them to some Metallica songs, and, I don't know… make a friend who likes Metallica?
Metallica is for everyone, and it's great to see Zara show an interest in one of the greatest metal bands of all time AND playing guitar.
